The Black-chested Buzzard-eagle is a large, powerful hawk of open Andean landscapes and adjacent lowlands in South America, from Colombia south to Tierra del Fuego. It inhabits open and semi-open country including grasslands, shrubby hillsides, and forest edges, feeding on rabbits, rodents, and other medium-sized vertebrates.
