Blue-grey upperparts; chestnut-spotted white flank bars; grey crown; rufous-brown collar with white spots; reddish-orange bill and legs; white face. Closely resembles Red-legged Partridge but collar spotted.
Taiwan Bamboo-partridge
Similar to Chinese Bamboo-partridge but warmer toned; richer chestnut on flanks and breast; brown upperparts with olive tinge; grey supercilium; rufous tail; white belly. Endemic to Taiwan; sexes similar.

Barbary Partridge

A small Phasianidae partridge (~264 g) endemic to bamboo forests and secondary woodland of Taiwan. Very similar to the Chinese Bamboo-partridge but considered a distinct island species based on vocalisations and genetics. Gregarious; feeds on seeds and invertebrates. Locally abundant; Least Concern.
