Um gavião de floresta da família Accipitridae, amplamente distribuído na África Subsaariana. O Gavião-africano (Accipiter tachiro) habita florestas tropicais e subtropicais em toda a África Subsaariana. Mede aproximadamente 34-44 cm. Semelhante ao Açor Europeu mas menor. Alimenta-se principalmente de aves, mas também de lagartos e mamíferos pequenos. É o equivalente africano do Açor em termos ecológicos. Adaptado à caça dentro de florestas densas. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
