O menor membro da família Accipitridae na América do Sul. O Gavião-pequenino (Accipiter superciliosus) habita florestas tropicais e subtropicais do México ao Brasil e Peru. Mede apenas 20-27 cm, tornando-o um dos menores gaviões do mundo. Apesar do pequeno porte, caça ativamente pequenas aves. Caracterizado pelas partes inferiores finamente barradas. É uma espécie florestal discreta, raramente observada. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
