Mede aproximadamente 30-38 cm. Recebe esse nome por se assemelhar a outros gaviões da região. É uma espécie de distribuição muito restrita, conhecida de apenas algumas ilhas. Alimenta-se provavelmente de pequenas aves e lagartos. Classificado como Vulnerável pela UICN devido à sua distribuição limitada e perda de habitat.
