O Gavião-japonês (Accipiter gularis) se reproduz no Japão, China, Sibéria e Coréia, migrando para as Filipinas, Indonésia e ilhas do Pacífico durante o inverno. Mede aproximadamente 23-30 cm. Semelhante ao Gavião-miúdo mas com partes inferiores mais finamente barradas. Alimenta-se principalmente de pequenas aves. Frequentemente observado durante a migração, às vezes em grupos numerosos. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
