Emerald-chinned Hummingbird

Um beija-flor pequeno (8-9 cm) que habita florestas úmidas montanas e bordas de floresta na América Central. O Beija-flor-de-Abeillé (Abeillia abeillei) pertence à família Trochilidae e é distinguido pela plumagem verde-esmeralda iridescente e garganta roxa no macho. Encontrado nas encostas do Pacífico da Guatemala e Honduras, geralmente em altitudes entre 600-1800 m. Alimenta-se principalmente de néctar de flores tropicais e pequenos insetos. Como a maioria dos beija-flores, é solitário e territorial. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird

The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only breeding hummingbird in eastern North America. These tiny birds beat their wings about 53 times per second and can fly backwards, sideways, and even briefly upside down. They make an extraordinary non-stop 800 km crossing of the Gulf of Mexico during migration.
