O beija-flor-brilhante-de-orelha-preta é um beija-flor de tamanho médio das florestas húmidas da bacia amazónica e das encostas andinas orientais. O macho apresenta partes superiores verde-metálico e uma gorjeira iridescente brilhante. Alimenta-se do néctar de diversas flores dos estratos da floresta. A fêmea é mais apagada. Faz parte das comunidades de beija-flores das selvas tropicais amazónicas.
