O beija-flor-brilhante-imperatriz é um grande e chamativo beija-flor das florestas nubladas andinas da Colômbia e Equador. O macho tem partes superiores verde-brilhante, uma gorjeira verde-iridescente e o ventre branco. Habita no estrato médio e no dossel das florestas nubladas. Alimenta-se principalmente de flores de Helicónias e outras flores grandes. É um dos maiores beija-flores da região andina.

Nectarivore of Colombian Pacific slope cloud forest; forages at Ericaceae and Heliconia. Supplements with small arthropods.
