Distribui-se na faixa do Sahel, do Senegal à Eritreia e Etiópia. Habita savanas, pastagens áridas e zonas agrícolas com árvores dispersas. Famoso pelos voos acrobáticos de exibição nupcial. Alimenta-se de insetos e pequenos vertebrados.
