A medium-sized frogmouth (21-25 cm) of lowland primary rainforest in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. Rich brown plumage spangled with white spots resembling stars. Nocturnal insectivore. Classified as Near Threatened due to ongoing lowland deforestation.

Males pale grey-brown finely marked with dark vermiculations and starring white scapular spots; females rich cinnamon-rufous with white spotting; small Sundaland frogmouth with disproportionately bold scapular spots for its size.
Habitat & Range

Found in the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo in lowland dipterocarp and peat swamp forest below 600 m. Uncommon.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly nocturnal forager; catches large beetles, cockroaches, and centipedes by dropping silently to the forest floor.
