Um dos pássaros mais abundantes da América do Norte, pertencente à família Icteridae. O Tordilho-de-ombros-vermelhos (Agelaius phoeniceus) habita pântanos, campos e áreas agrícolas do Alaska ao Panamá. Os machos são pretos brilhantes com ombreiras vermelhas com margem amarela conspícuas; as fêmeas têm plumagem listrada discreta. Os machos poligínicos podem acasalar com até 15 fêmeas. Alimenta-se de sementes, grãos e insetos. Forma bandos enormes durante o inverno. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
