O Gavião-preto-e-branco-australiano (Accipiter novaehollandiae) habita florestas e bosques em toda a Austrália e em partes da Papua Nova Guiné. Mede aproximadamente 35-55 cm, com fêmeas maiores. A forma mais comum é branca e preta, embora formas cinza-azuladas também ocorram. Alimenta-se principalmente de aves. Um predador elegante e ágil, bem adaptado à caça em habitats florestais.
