Um gavião pequeno e amplamente distribuído da família Accipitridae, bem adaptado à caça em habitats florestais europeus e asiáticos. O Gaviãozinho (Accipiter nisus) habita florestas e subúrbios arbolados em toda a Europa e Ásia, com populações setentrionais migrando para o sul durante o inverno. Mede aproximadamente 28-38 cm; as fêmeas são significativamente maiores que os machos. Caracterizado pela cauda longa e asas curtas e arredondadas, perfeitamente adaptadas para caçar aves em florestas densas. Apresenta dimorfismo sexual distinto na plumagem. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
