Um gavião de floresta da família Accipitridae, endêmico das montanhas da Papua Nova Guiné. O Gavião-de-manto-preto (Accipiter melanochlamys) habita florestas montanas na Nova Guiné, geralmente em altitudes entre 1500-3000 m. Mede aproximadamente 35-45 cm. Caracterizado pelo manto escuro distinto. Alimenta-se provavelmente de aves e mamíferos pequenos. Como espécie de alta altitude, tem distribuição restrita às montanhas centrais da Nova Guiné. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
