Uma pequena ave canora da família Fringillidae que realiza irrupções em todo o Hemisfério Norte. O Pintassilgo-birredondo (Acanthis flammea) é adaptado à vida na taiga e tundra, movendo-se para o sul irregularmente quando as colheitas de sementes falham no norte. Mede aproximadamente 13 cm. Caracterizado pela coroa vermelha carmesim e, nos machos, peito cor-de-rosa durante a reprodução. Alimenta-se principalmente de sementes de bétula e amieiro. Forma bandos numerosos no inverno. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
