Black-rumped Buttonquail (Turnix nanus) is a tiny 13–14 cm buttonquail of sub-Saharan Africa. Pale sandy-buff with dark rufous streaking; distinctive dark rump visible in flight. Inhabits short open grassland and burnt savanna areas across tropical Africa from Senegal east to Ethiopia and south to Tanzania.

Female larger and brighter than male (sex-role reversal). Inhabits open grassland, scrub, and cultivation from Pakistan east to China and Indonesia.
