Eurasian Curlew
Eurasian Curlew: 50–60 cm, wingspan 89–106 cm, Europe's largest wading bird with a very long decurved bill and mournful bubbling call. Breeds on upland moors, bogs, and wet grassland; winters on estuaries and coasts. Feeds on worms, crabs, and invertebrates. NT. Severely declining due to agricultural change on breeding grounds.
Amami Woodcock
Amami Woodcock: 34–36 cm, large rufous woodcock endemic to the Ryukyu Islands of Japan (Amami-Oshima, Tokunoshima). Inhabits dense subtropical forest. Nocturnal; probes soil for earthworms. NT. Threatened by feral mongooses introduced for snake control and habitat loss. Sedentary island endemic. Similar to Eurasian Woodcock.
