소형 벌새로 체장 약 11cm이며, 수컷은 초록 몸통에 빛나는 자주색 목과 갈색 꽁지를 갖는다. 안데스 산맥 콜롬비아에서 아르헨티나까지 고지대 관목지와 숲에 서식한다. 꽃의 꿀을 빨아 먹는다. 관심 필요 종이다.
