소형 벌새로 체장 약 10cm이며, 수컷은 광택 있는 초록에 자주빛 보석색 목과 동색 꽁지를 갖는다. 에콰도르 남부 고지대 관목지에만 서식하는 희귀 고유종이다. 꽃의 꿀을 빨아 먹는다. 위기에 처한 상태이다.
