큰재등갈매기는 북대서양 해안에 서식하는 세계 최대의 갈매기이다. 검은 등과 흰 몸, 분홍색 다리가 특징이며 길이가 75cm를 넘는 대형 종이다. 다른 새의 새끼와 알도 잡아먹는 강력한 포식자이다.
