갈색머리갈매기는 남아메리카 대서양 연안과 파타고니아에 서식하는 중형 갈매기이다. 번식기에는 갈색 머리를 가지며 칠레와 아르헨티나 해안에서 흔하다. 해안과 내륙 수계에서 물고기와 수생 무척추동물을 먹는다.
