자수정목벌새는 멕시코 산악 지대에 서식하는 아름다운 벌새이다. 수컷은 자수정색의 반짝이는 목 깃털이 특징이며 녹색 등과 조화를 이룬다. 고산대의 꽃들 특히 자주색 꽃의 꿀을 좋아하며 빠른 날갯짓으로 정지 비행을 한다.
