About These Birds
White-bellied Storm-petrel
White-bellied Storm-petrel, 18–21 cm, breeds on sub-Antarctic and South Atlantic islands; pelagic across the Southern Ocean in winter. White belly contrasts with dark breast band and dark upperparts; pale at base of rump. Planktivore; patters over sea surface. Often seen in the company of Wilson's Storm-petrel.
Pincoya Storm-petrel
Pincoya Storm-petrel, 16–18 cm, was described as a new species only in 2013 from the Chiloé Archipelago of Chile. One of the most recently discovered birds in the Americas. Dark with white belly patch. Breeds in Chilean fjords — unusual for storm-petrels. Forages over cold sub-Antarctic coastal waters.
