수컷은 장관적으로 직립한 녹색 볏과 길고 전선 같은 외부 꼬리 깃털을 가진 7–8cm(수컷 꼬리 전선 포함 총 12–13cm) 소형 벌새. 콜롬비아에서 페루까지 안데스 산기슭 삼림에 서식한다. 꿀을 먹는다. 가장 화려한 벌새 중 하나.
