일본, 한국, 중국 동북부 산악 삼림과 삼림 가장자리에서 번식하고 동남아시아에서 월동하는 중형 쏙독새(약 84 g). 회갈색으로 섬세한 물결 무늬를 가진다. 최근에 밀림 쏙독새에서 분리된 종이다. 수컷은 황혼에 코맹맹이 소리로 운다. 최소관심종이다.
