1990년 에티오피아 남부 네치사르 평원에서 수집된 단 하나의 표본과 깃털 샘플로만 알려진 매우 수수께끼 같고 극히 희귀한 쏙독새. 이후 확인된 목격 기록이 없다. 심각한 위기종으로 분류되어 있으며, 서식지, 분포, 개체수 모두 거의 알려져 있지 않다.
