8–9 cm의 소형 벌새로 멕시코에서 중앙아메리카를 거쳐 코스타리카까지 분포. 짧고 곧은 부리를 가진 빛나는 에메랄드색 녹색 깃털. 숲 가장자리·정원·이차림에서 꿀을 먹는다. 중앙아메리카에서 가장 흔한 소형 벌새 중 하나.
