26–30 cm, wingspan 66 cm. Pale grey above with dark M-mark; white underparts with dark partial collar and carpal bar. Breeds only on islands off New Zealand (Little Barrier, Codfish). Vulnerable; migrates to North Pacific. Feeds on squid and crustaceans.
