소형 황새치잡이새로 체장 약 25cm이며, 선명한 초록 몸통에 긴 꽁지 깃털이 있고 목에는 검은 줄이 있다. 아프리카 사하라 이남부터 아시아까지 건조한 삼림지대, 관목지, 초지에 서식한다. 공중에서 날아다니는 곤충을 잡아먹는다. 관심 필요 종이다.
