검은부리낫부리극락조는 뉴기니 산지림의 대형 극락조로 수컷은 짙은 갈색 깃털, 긴 꼬리, 꿀을 찾고 나무껍질에서 유충을 추출하는 데 사용하는 매우 길고 강하게 굽은 검은 부리를 가진다. 뉴기니 본섬 전역의 원시 중간 산지림에 서식. 절지동물·꿀·과일을 먹는다.
