9–10 cm(수컷은 연장된 꼬리 포함)의 소형 벌새로 해발 1,200–2,500m의 과테말라·온두라스·엘살바도르 고지 고유종. 수컷은 매우 길고 가늘고 긴 외부 꼬리 깃털을 가진다. 산지 관목지와 정원 꽃에서 꿀을 먹는다.

Feeds on floral nectar from forest-edge blossoms, probing with its long decurved bill. Catches small insects and spiders for protein.
