붉은 부리 자고새는 수마트라 섬에만 서식하는 고유종 자고새입니다. 붉은색 부리와 눈 주위 피부가 특징이며, 수마트라 저지대 우림에서 발견되나 생태에 대해 많은 부분이 알려지지 않았습니다.

Brown above streaked darker; throat and face white with fine dark scaling; breast grey; flanks grey with white streaks; distinctive bright red bill and red eye-ring; no rufous breast patches.
Habitat & Range

Resident in the montane forests of Sumatra and Borneo at 600-2,000 m. Found in primary hill and montane forest.
Diet & Feeding
Eats seeds, invertebrates, and small fruits on floor of Bornean montane forests. Little-studied; diet inferred from congeners.

Clear, high-pitched 'wheee-oop' whistle; slurred downward at end. Borneo endemic calling from montane understorey. Contact calls soft low clucks; alarm a sharp explosive 'pit' note.
