콜롬비아에서 볼리비아까지 안데스 운무림 해발 2,500~4,500m에 서식하는 중형 벌새(12~13cm). 수컷은 화려한 구리-자주색 등 반점이 있다. 꽃의 꿀과 작은 곤충을 먹는다.

Nectarivore of high Andean páramo and puna; visits Chuquiraga, Puya, and Ericaceae flowers. Catches small insects near blooms.
