Vogelkop Scrubwren

The Vogelkop Scrubwren (<em>Aethomyias rufescens</em>) is a small passerine in the family Acanthizidae, associated with forest habitats in the Vogelkop region of western New Guinea. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature. No nesting type, clutch size, song, diet, or geographic range data are available in the current records for this species. It is presumed to be an active insectivore, as is typical of scrubwrens, foraging in the dense vegetation of its forest habitat. The species is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, indicating that the population within its restricted range does not currently face significant threats. The Vogelkop Peninsula is a centre of endemism for New Guinea's avifauna, and this scrubwren is among the many species with highly localised distributions in that region.
