검은얼굴솔새는 올리브 녹색 윗면, 황색 아랫면, 검은 왕관 줄무늬, 뚜렷한 검은 얼굴 무늬를 가진 아주 작고 섬세한 솔새이다. 동히말라야에서 중국 남부, 베트남 북부까지 해발 1,500~3,000m의 산악 삼림과 대나무 덤불에 서식한다. 매우 활발하게 움직이며 빽빽한 잎사귀 사이를 끊임없이 돌아다니며 작은 곤충과 거미를 잡아먹는다.
