Least Grebe (Tachybaptus dominicus) is the smallest New World grebe at 21–27 cm. Dark grey overall in breeding plumage with yellow eye, blackish cap, and short bill. Inhabits small freshwater ponds, ditches, and marshes from the southern USA through Central and South America to northern Argentina. Feeds on small fish and aquatic invertebrates.

Madagascar Grebe (Tachybaptus pelzelnii) is a small 25–29 cm grebe endemic to freshwater lakes and wetlands in Madagascar. Pale brown with rufous neck sides; paler than Little Grebe. Inhabits lakes and reservoirs including Lake Alaotra and Lake Ihotry.
