北大西洋・北太平洋の断崖で繁殖し、外洋で越冬する海鳥（体長38〜40cm）。白い体と灰色の翼・黒い翼端、後趾の退化が特徴的。Rissa tridactyla（ミツユビカモメ）は垂直な岩の壁面に小さな巣を作るが、子供は落下防止のために本能的に動かない行動を取る。Laridae科。
