Yellow-throated Sandgrouse (Pterocles gutturalis) — 28–32 cm. Sandy-buff; male with yellow throat bordered by black collar; slender tail. Found in open woodland, grassland, and farmland in East and southern Africa. Granivore; drinks at waterholes in flocks. Male carries water in belly feathers for chicks.
Black-bellied Sandgrouse (Pterocles orientalis) — 32–37 cm. Large; male: chestnut and grey upperparts; black belly; chestnut throat. Inhabits open steppe, semi-desert, and dry farmland from the Canary Islands through the Middle East to Central Asia and northwest India. Granivore; partially migratory.
