About These Birds
Colombian Grebe
Colombian Grebe (Podiceps andinus) is an extinct small to medium grebe formerly endemic to Lake Tota in the eastern Andes of Colombia at 3,000 m. Related to Black-necked Grebe; had chestnut neck and facial tufts. Declared extinct in 1977 following drainage of much of Lake Tota, hunting, and pesticide use.
Tricolored Grebe
Tricolored Grebe (Tachybaptus tricolor) is a small 22–25 cm grebe of the Moluccas and western Pacific islands. Named for its tri-toned appearance: dark brown above, chestnut sides, white underparts. Inhabits freshwater lakes, ponds, and slow rivers. Restricted to islands including Sulawesi, the Moluccas, the Solomons, and New Britain.
