Andean Flamingo
Andean Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus andinus) is a large 100–110 cm flamingo of high Andean salt lakes. Pale pink with bright yellow legs; black lower body; heavy pink-and-black bill. Restricted to puna lakes above 3,500 m in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Vulnerable; world population only ~38,000. Feeds on diatoms and invertebrates.
Puna Flamingo
Puna Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) is a medium 90–92 cm flamingo of extreme high-altitude Andean salt lakes above 4,000 m. Pale pink; distinctive red facial skin; all-red bill with black tip; yellow legs. Found in Bolivia, Chile, Peru, and Argentina. Vulnerable; ~50,000 birds. Also called James's Flamingo.
