北ヨーロッパ・アジアの湿った茂みや葦原で繁殖し、南方で越冬するヒタキ（体長13〜14cm）。雄の鮮やかな青い喉の中央に赤い斑か白い斑があるのが特徴的。Luscinia svecica（ルリビタキ属）は低木の根際近くを素早く動き回り、昆虫や果実を食べる。日本には迷鳥として記録がある。Muscicapidae科。
