シベリア・北米の北極圏で繁殖し、世界中の海岸で越冬するシギ(体長37〜41cm)。上向きに反った長い嘴と赤褐色の夏羽が特徴。Limosa lapponica(オオソリハシシギ)は地球上で最長の無着陸飛行を行う鳥として知られ、ニュージーランドからアラスカまで約11,000kmを9〜11日で飛び続ける。Scolopacidae科。
