ヨーロッパ・アジア・北米の沿岸・内陸湖で繁殖するカモメ(体長40〜46cm)。白い体と灰色の背、緑みがかった黄色の嘴が特徴。Larus canus(カモメ)は日本でも冬季に全国の海岸や港、河川で普通に見られる代表的なカモメ。繁殖は北方で行い、南方の沿岸で越冬する。Laridae科。
