ムラサキミミハチドリは南メキシコからコロンビアにかけての中央アメリカ太平洋斜面（標高0〜1,200 m）の低地・丘陵林に生息するハチドリ（体長10〜11 cm）。雄は光沢のある緑色の羽衣と紫色の耳部パッチが特徴。林冠・林縁の蜜食性。
