コロンビアとエクアドル北部の西アンデス（標高1,800〜3,500 m）の雲霧林に生息する小型ハチドリ（体長10〜11 cm）。雄は深い紫の喉を持つ。緑色の羽衣。パラモと林縁の蜜食性。その属の中で最も鮮やかな喉の色をもつ種の一つ。
