ヴェロー・ギニアホロホロチョウは中〜大型のホロホロチョウ科の鳥（体重約1 kg）で、黒白の斑点羽衣と縮れた黒い冠羽を持つ。ガンビアからナイジェリアにかけての西アフリカの森林縁辺・湿潤林・サバンナに生息。フロックで種子・無脊椎動物・小型脊椎動物を採食。西アフリカの森林サバンナモザイクに普通で、生息地の撹乱にも適応、軽度懸念。
Helmeted Guineafowl
アフリカ・マダガスカル原産で、現在は世界各地で家禽として飼育されるホロホロチョウ（体長53〜58cm）。灰色の体に白い斑点が全身にあり、裸の青赤い頭部が特徴的。Numida meleagris（ホロホロチョウ）は大きな群れで行動し、地面をかきながら種子、昆虫、塊茎を食べる。昆虫（マダニ等）の駆除に有用として注目されている。Numididae科。
