About These Birds
Luzon Bleeding-heart
Medium ground dove, 25–30 cm, with brown-grey upperparts and a dramatically blood-red breast patch on white underparts, resembling a chest wound. Endemic to Luzon in the Philippines. Inhabits primary and secondary lowland and hill forest. Terrestrial frugivore. Near Threatened due to deforestation and hunting.

The ancestor of the domesticated Barbary Dove (ring-necked dove). Granivore of grass seeds and small grains in dry savanna, farmland, and desert edge. Least Concern.
