サハラ以南のアフリカ原産で、ブラジル、ポルトガル、その他の地域にも外来種として定着した小型のフィンチ（体長9〜10cm）。緑がかった灰色の体に赤い眼帯と尾上部が特徴。Estrilda astrild（エスタリルダ・アストリルド/コモンワクスビル）は草の種子を主食とし、草地や農地の周辺に生息する。Estrildidae科。
