ヨーロッパからアジアにかけての森林に広く分布するカラスの仲間（体長32〜35cm）。ピンク褐色の体に黒・白・青のモザイク模様の翼が美しい。Garrulus glandarius（カケス）はドングリを冬のために埋めて貯蔵する行動が有名で、埋めたドングリを忘れることによって森林更新に貢献する。日本のカケスは亜種として生息。Corvidae科。
